After three years, Mapacho has finally returned to the Dreamy Earth apothecary!

With increasing restrictions around medicines coming in from Peru, Mapacho has become incredibly difficult to source. I’ve spent the last few years searching and waiting for the right connection, knowing I didn’t want to bring this medicine back into the apothecary until I found a source I truly felt good about.

I finally found a trustworthy connection and am so excited to welcome Mapacho back into our altars, prayers, and ceremonies.

This is a small and precious batch, and I truly don’t know when, or if, I’ll be able to restock once these are gone.

Mapacho is Nicotiana Rustica, a potent variety of Tobacco native to South America. Tobacco is regarded as a Master Plant Teacher within many Indigenous traditions throughout the Americas and has long held a place within prayer, offering and ceremonial practice.

To light Mapacho with intention is to enter into relationship with smoke as a carrier of prayer, to cleanse and prepare a sacred space, to make a heart offering, to call your Spirit back, or to send a prayer beyond yourself.

Within ceremonial space, Tobacco becomes an ally for anchoring presence and intention. The smoke becomes a vehicle for your prayers, carrying them into the ancestral realms, the Spirit world, and wherever else they're meant to travel. Mapacho's wisdom asks us to slow down, become clear about what we're calling in or releasing, and liberate ourselves from illusion.

How to commune with Mapacho...

Begin by arriving into your body and offering your heart-centered prayers. Respectfully call upon Grandfather Tobacco, introduce yourself and state your purpose for working together.

Light the Mapacho and gently draw the smoke into the mouth without inhaling it into the lungs. Hold the smoke in your mouth, then intentionally blow it toward the body, object, space or direction you wish to cleanse, bless or offer prayer toward.

When opening a ceremony or circle, Mapacho smoke may be offered in each of the seven directions: North, East, South, West, Father Sky, Mother Earth and Self.

You don't need to have a grand ritual...simply listen. Let the Spirit of Tobacco guide where the smoke wants to travel. Stay in prayer and concentration throughout your practice, and approach the medicine with respect.
